Sew pencil skirt with lining. Step 2, how to lay out paper pattern pieces on the skirt fabric?

(See next step 3, how to cut out skirt fabric pieces, and how to get the seam and dart lines on your skirt fabric pieces?)

(See previous step 1, sewing tools you need.)

First, you need to fold your skirt fabric in half lengthwise, fabric right sides facing in. Then take your straight waistband paper pattern piece, skirt back and skirt front paper pattern pieces. Please Note: Click on photo to see a larges size.

Then lay out the skirt and straight waistband paper pattern pieces on the skirt fabric as shown in the picture below.
Then pin up the paper pattern pieces and the fabric together with pins. Pin the paper pattern pieces so the both ends of grain lines are in equal distance from the fabric selvages.

Then add seam allowances, use ruler and a sliver of soap:
- hem line: 1 1/4 inches (3 cm)
- side lines: 1 inch (2,5 cm)
- waistline: 3/8 inches (1 cm)
- center back: 1 1/4 inches (3 cm)
- waistband (along one end and both long edges) 3/8 inches (1 cm)

Then add back vent extension, use ruler and a sliver of soap:
- width of the extension: 3 1/4 inches (8 cm)
- height (including the hem seam allowance width) of the extension: 9 inches (23 cm)

Add seam allowance to the side lines and waistline.
